The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Inspector General plans to begin an evaluation of institutional controls at the Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Inc. Superfund site. This evaluation is part of the OIG’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Oversight Plan. This evaluation addresses the following fiscal year 2024 top management challenge for the Agency: managing grants, contracts, and data systems.
Our objective is to determine whether the EPA’s institutional controls related to IIJA-funded remedial activities at the Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Inc. Superfund site in South Plainfield, New Jersey, will minimize human exposure to site contaminants. We plan to conduct work within the Office of Land and Emergency Management and Region 2. We will conduct the evaluation using Quality Standards for Inspection and Evaluation, issued by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. The anticipated benefits of this evaluation will include verification that surface water-related institutional controls will minimize human exposure to contamination, protecting the approximately $170 million in Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds that have been allocated to remediate the site.
